Hating Delta

Ugh, lousy day today. Flight got cancelled, *cried thinking i’ll miss my SIA flight because i called SIA and they said there weren’t any seats available to SG for the next 10 days*, got on a flight to la guardia that will theoretically reach in time for me to take a cab to JFK. La guardia flight delayed. Waited half an hour for baggage then realized baggage was still in Pittsburgh because they didn’t transfer the bag. Delta representative at baggage counter told me I still can get to JFK (within 15mins) and get on my SIA flight and they’ll ship my bag to singapore. Rushed to taxi line which was probably 150m long, went to the front, told them i have to catch an international flight at JFK in an hour 15mins, the first Chinese lady looked at me then went to grab the cab. The Americans behind her were like, go ahead, good luck. *hated PRCs for a while then went back to hating delta* Got to JFK at 7:52, missed the flight by 2 mins >< *cried thinking that i wouldn’t be able to go back to singapore at all (since i start work in 3 weeks)* SIA representative helped me get on to tomorrow’s flight. So i guess my day wasn’t as bad afterall.

Also, thank god for wonderful boyfriend who booked me an airport hotel right after i told him that i missed my SIA flight (i guess he got scared of me calling him crying) so i had a place to go eat dinner and crash right after :*

**don’t take delta

Kauai Day 3 & 4

This is gonna be a really short post. Because day 3 we went on a boat to go snorkeling at the napili coast and then slacked the entire evening/night/next day until our flight back in the evening. Miss Hawaii sooo much )):

Can’t wait to start working and earning enough money such that I can retire early and travel all around the world! Still remember how charm was saying that being too well traveled is not good because it leaves you with less places to explore. But I think there are still so many places in the world that you can go. And you can’t really learn all about the country/city in one visit too. But I travelled to less places than her so maybe she’s coming from a perspective that I don’t understand.

Our boating photos ((:IMG_1587

You see the bubbles? That’s from a mummy whale and baby whale! They were super close to us, like 20m away (I wanted to say 10, but I guess in the ocean you think it’s super close but you probably don’t estimate that well). But the thing is, the mummy whale did a mega flip right in front of us, and its so close you can see the details of the belly, like the lines along the body and the black dots. It was so close that the captain said it was a little too close for comfort for him as well. So it was worth the money ((:IMG_1584

Its so pretty! You can see the layers and layers of solidified volcanic lava.

That’s my last photo. The captain was super nice and funny. His name is captain Johnathan. So if you go to Kauai, look for him. Its just a small boat, so you can do private trips with him only. He explained everything super well and kept telling us that we have a great future ahead of us after knowing that we’re from CMU. Lol. And I told him i’m gonna work for fidelity and he started asking me which mutual funds are better, and i was like erm.. I’m in tech. And he was like, oh, then you can create a website for me!

After the trip, we went to a korean bbq restaurant near our hotel to buy takeouts to eat in our hotel room. And stayed in there till dinner. Went to apparently the best restaurant in the Kapaa area. Wasn’t too impressed, so I shan’t recommend them here. But apparently you need reservations to get a table. We booked 2 days before and could only get a 830pm table. And it wasn’t even good. WTF?

Day 4

Our flight was only at 8pm. So we only checked out around 1. Went to the poipu area (rich white people area) and shopped around. There was this ice cream place that was sooooo freaking good. Go yelp it. It’s one of the best ice cream i’ve had.

We were trying to waste time until it was time to fly. So we just yelped for masadalas which is some portuguese donuts. We found one that everyone kept saying was super good and you HAVE TO try it. Drove over bought 6, and we couldn’t even finish 2. It’s really just donuts. Like REALLY just donuts.

Then tk realized that some famous kauai landmark was nearby so we went over. IMG_1589

Its called the spouting horn. When the waves crash in, theres this small tunnel created due to erosion and you can see the waves splash up. Which is pretty cool I guess.

Then we drove around, looking at the super mega huge houses, and I swear i’ll buy a vacation home by 30 (so that I guess it’s not too disgusting to still wear bikinis). And we took a lot of photos for my iPad puzzle game to kill time on the flight back.

I want to go back to Hawaii. Actually, I just want to get away from pittsburgh..

Kauai Day 2

Woke up to a bright, sunny day ((: What a difference from Pittsburgh. This was the view from our hotel room. Awesome isn’t it? Listening to the waves crash in as we forced ourselves to wake up and enjoy the day.

Walked along the long stretch of private beach. So beautiful ((:

Then we decided to eat some local food. Bought Hawaiian food takeout! Its called Poke (pronounced pok-ey). I got spicy crab & spicy ahi.

He got scallop and spicy baby lobster.

It was soooo good! ((: surprisingly. And mariott has a expedia booth, so went there to get some deals for activities ((: She recommended that we did a helicopter trip that day because it was sunny and beautiful (and Hawaii is usually misty or windy). We also got a deal for a boat trip for the next day. The helicopter trip is about 275 per person. and the Boat trip was about 150. If you get those deals from expedia you get a free T-shirt and a free dvd for your trip for the helicopter ride! ((:

The helicopter we were going to get on

looks cool huh

This is the famous waterfall in Jurassic Park

This is a “tree tunnel” that used to be 3 mile long, but after a hurricane it is only 1 mile long. We were on our way to Poipu beach. Looked for restaurant on yelp and most of the restaurants had mains that were 30+. So if you’re looking for a place to stay in Kauai, keep that in mind. Poipu is definitely for the richer older couples. Kapaa (where we stayed) was probably for the middle class tourists. There was a lot of food there and mains were only 10-30.

Dinner at Brenneckes Beach Restaurant ((: We got clam chowder again, but this wasn’t as good as the one at Buzz’s Wharf. I got seared ahi with ravioli

He got fish and chip. It wasn’t that great, but it was one of the more affordable restaurants in poipu. We’ve spent more than what we signed up for so we went to the cheaper place )):

Went back to our hotel and spent the rest of the night in our room. Definitely spent a lot more time in our room in Kauai compared to Maui. And i’m glad for that because we slept so little in Maui!

Maui day 4/Kauai day 1

it was our last day in Maui and we woke up at 4am to go see the sunrise at Haleakala Crater. It was sooo crazy, I never woke up so early before! >< And it was a 2 hour drive to the top of the Haleakala Crater. Almost died. Photos below! So we drove 2 hours to the top, waited for the sunrise for 10minutes, watched it for 10minutes, and drove another 2 hours back ><

look at the colors! Its’s so pretty!!

IMG_1504Lunch at Star Noodle. It is like the number 1 on yelp, and we were quite disappointed with the asian food in Hawaii and tk didn’t want to try it. Kinda forced him to try it. The head chef joined the Top Chef show and is quite famous.

This is some Vietnamese crepe. It’s the first time i tried something like that and it’s actually quite good! ((:

Flight to kauai was pretty fast, less than an hour. This is our mega huge room at the mariott ((: I think we’re quite lucky, they upgraded us to a ocean view suite! ((: It was night time so i didn’t take photos of the view.

Dinner. This was pretty good, it wasn’t hamburger steak, they minced the short ribs and added foie gras. YUM

tk continued his seafood binge with Wahoo fish.

photos of our helicopter trip & boat trip soon! ((:

Days 1 & 2 of Hawaii (Maui)

SO, I begin by saying that I really have to thank kw and terence because they drove us to the airport 😛 If you’re thinking wx’s such a bitch, why is she being so dramatic about thanking them, YOU’RE RIGHT. Tk and I went for supper with the Malaysians till 1+am and packed till 2+, and thought we’ll sleep for 2 hours and wake up at 4 to shower and prepare and tk (the retard) set the alarm clock wrongly and we didn’t wake till Terence woke the entire house up at 4:50am (our flight was at 630 and the airport was an hour away). Ok fine, I guess tk was tired when he was setting the alarm, and we did manage to catch our flight anyway, so I shan’t blame him. But we got ready in 10 minutes (me in 3mins and he took 7. I swear) and sped off.

It was such a long flight from pittsburgh to hawaii I think i almost died. And the flight from NYC to LAX was so bumpy I was airsick when we got to LAX. He ate wolfgang puck (the airport version) and I could only drink chicken noodle soup )):

Day 1

Got to Maui at about 630pm, and had to drive to the airport 50mins away. Was soooooo tired and it was so dark so it was even worse. That boy has to get his license from his mum soon >< Our welcome gift at Hyatt Regency Maui. Orchid for me and shell beads for him.

Anyway, when you are looking for a place to stay in Maui, our area, Kaanapali, is a really nice area. There’s a nice shopping center just next to where we’re staying, Whalers Village (we walked over once and it took 10mins but we usually drive) and theres a lot of nice food there. We ate there twice for dinner during our 3 day stay because they have a few of the “best” restaurants in Maui. Ate there for dinner the first night (Leilani’s On the Beach) because we were too lazy to drive somewhere else.

Day 2!

IMG_1418 copy

This is the view from our hotel room. This is what you get for 400+ bucks a night! We didn’t pay that, don’t worry. We got the partial ocean view and they gave up full ocean view rooms ((: Tehe lucky us ((:

Went to a great brunch place that was recommended on yelp (Gazebo Restaurant). The food was meh but this was the view from the restaurant. Pretty good huh (too lazy to cut off the tree trunk)

We then went beach hopping. Spent 120 bucks on snorkel gear because the boy thinks that we should have our own snorkel gear because they’re cleaner >< (turns out we didn’t use the snorkel gear at much our entire trip ><)

Honolua was one of the view points along the highway along the west coast of Maui

Pictures of the beaches/view points along the entire west coast of Maui. Didn’t get to snorkel because the hotel concierge advised us against it. )): Ate at Hula Grill for dinner.

It is apparently one of the best restaurants on the island but it was still disappointing. I guess we just had such high expectations of the food in hawaii especially seafood coming from Pittsburgh. We had seafood almost 3mealsx7days! That boy loves seafood.

More updates soon! ((:

We’re going to HAWAIIIIII ((: for spring break. That’s 90% confirmed. We found the places that we wanted to go and hotels that we want to stay in ((: It’s gonna cost a bomb though >< Air tickets and hotels are already gonna cost 1.8k )): Gonna go to Oahu and Kauai. If you’ve been to hawaii pleaseeee tell me where else to go. We only have 7 days so I was thinking of only visiting 2 islands..

Hopefully we’re lucky enough to see some WHALES because the season is from dec-april, so.. Crossing my fingers! ((:

Skiing @ 7Spring

muahaha think im getting better at it. and dang it, i learnt parallel turns for like 5 ski sessions before getting it and tk got it in 1 time?! life is so freaking unfair. but at least he likes it so we can go skiing again ((:
can’t wait to go again! but hopefully there’ll be more snow >< it was more like ice skating & scraping ice off the slopes instead of skiing.
